Materials Engineering Task Balance Question?
Here is the link to the flowchart I did, I http://i372.photobucket.com/albums/oo169/randallz5/yea.jpg I think I have the first part of Part A, but beyond that I can not find the recycle streams. Thanks for the help! -Randall
This question brings "bad memories" from an introductory chemical engineering "out of the grass" class. (LOL) It's been a while, but I thought I could do it, but could only get as far as you by now with an overall material balance for: Feed 2 = 0.49kg / s C, and the following: Product 1 = 51.02 kg / s flows containing 50kg / s A and 1.02 kg / s C Output 2 = 49.47 kg / s flows containing 48.98kg / s B and 0.49kg / s C (You get to take stock general subject of A, B and C as well). I tried to get the recycle stream 1 by similar material balances around the first column and second column (attach All 2 recycling stream and the overhead condenser), but can not seem to separate the flows of unknown 1 unknown recycle distillate flows above # 1. I I arrived with five independent equations of all the unknown variables, but with six unknown variables, so you can not have its own solution. Are you sure you said all the information on the problem? If you could extend your question I would like to give a little more thought. Or hope that if someone else is the answer, publish it. I am very curious at this point how you can solve with the given information. I think it's solvable if we assume that there is no C in recycling one, but I will not make that assumption without a good basis for this. Anyway, hope you can extend your question, and this has helped a little.
