Hard Knives? 440 stainless vs Ti and other hard metals. What's the knife rating system?
i've heard of 440 and other ratings like St280 or something? Basically what's the hardest knife out there? What's a few really good ones? is it necissary to go titanium or are there super hard steel knives that compare? I'm looking for a survival knive, something that's simple, just an unbreakable piece of metal. Ready for paracord wrap?
440 has been shown to be the best metal to make a general purpose knife that i think you are looking for. one thing i want to warn you about however. you are looking for the hardest knife out there. the problem with a super hard knife is that the harder you make steel, including stainless ,the more brittle it becomes. most knife makers harden the knifes to a hardness of 56 on the Rockwell "C" scale
