What would be the best choice for my next EDC knife?

I lost my old man was letherman crappy E301 (I think) so I need a new knife, which one would be the best? Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn Covert Bencmade Griptillian FAST 551 SOG Flash II TiNi

Benchmade Griptilian is the level over both, SOG Flash and Gerber. The WB uses steel griptilian is 154cm, 58-60HRC is much beter AUS-8A steel that SOG both loves and "surgical stainless steel" Gerber takes his knife, which most likely refers to the waste as 420J or worse. Benchmade griptilian also has one of the best, or possibly the best block mechanisms "axis lock. I've tried almost all types of locks on the folders and not many come close, much less better than the Axis. Intuitive and easy to use and reliable. I have an axis lock knives that are some 10 years of age and ... In addition, blade geometry in the Griptilian is more useful / versatile design that FAST Add Flash and there is much bad customer service reputation is the SOG and its decision is not obvious;) other folders I like BM better grip - http://zknives.com/knives/folding/benchmade/index . shtml But if your choice has been reduced to 3 and then Griptilian is a clear winner.

There are plenty of books out there on melee combat, some are even worth reading, but the excellence of close combat and defensive tactics book is Kill or kill. If you want to get an inside look at the skills that will help you survive real combat you need to read To kill or kill. On pages This classic is all you need to know about the closure of combat and self defense and how to handle the riots and shootings. First published in 1943 to helping Allied soldiers in their fight against the Axis powers, has been revised several times. Even to this day still helps the police and soldiers in countless occasions. Colonel Rex Applegate The author learned about fighting the best, and what he wrote can not be ignored by anyone serious about being a modern warrior.

Born in Oregon on June 21, 1914 Applegate family tree includes the heroes of the American Revolution and the pioneers who settled in the Pacific Northwest. Applegate grew up in Oregon and soon developed a love for the desert. One of his first teachers was his uncle Gus Peret, an employee of Remington firearms, who taught us not Applegate youth to targets, but to aim and shoot instinctively and convulsively. When Rex Applegate graduated from the University of Oregon, with a business degree that it was an excellent shot. The 6'3 "and powerfully built Applegate said in football. But it was here Applegate began his military career, when he took party Corps Reserve Officer Training (ROTC). His first mission was with the 3rd Infantry Division, a unit of Army Reserve which is based in Fort Lewis, Washington.

Before the outbreak of World War II Applegate spent his free time doing research in shootings. His thirst for knowledge about real change for the hand shootings began an extensive investigation that included police reports and accounts in the Old West gunslingers. Research supports the already believed; police and soldiers were not teaching what you need to know to survive a real life shooting.

Applegate was openly critical of military training provided, but instead of the proverbial "axis" was given a chance. Col. Applegate received a commission in the regular Army. When the U.S. joined the fight against the Axis powers Applegate was eager to go, but instead would be recruited into the nascent community of the United States clandestine intelligence.

Before the Second World War had not elite military units or intelligence gathering agencies. Each unit had existed before the war had long since been dissolved. Not even had facilities to train new staff. Following the 1941 Japanese attack on the military were quick to adapt to new threats, as the Allies began from scratch, setting up secret training camps, like Camp in Maryland throughout Latin Richie North and England. Applegate, along with others was called to make the best recruits even better, so the allies could bring war on the Axis.

Before that recruits could be trained, teachers had to be trained. They were given a crash course in martial arts combat by the British Colonel William E. Fairbairn. At the start of training most American instructors thought they had much to learn from the British who had only lost the war to date. Although Fairbairn was a veteran police officer and Royal Marine was too nice, like a school teacher with gray hair and was very intimidating. Fairbairn end any misconceptions that U.S. instructors could have had when he took the Applegate Fairbairn much stronger and bigger He easily pulled a crowd during a self defense demonstration. Since that time everyone was willing to listen to what Fairbairn had to say when it comes melee combat.

Although the exact number is unknown, it is believed that about 10,000 recruits trained at Camp Richie where they learned how to carry enemy sentries out, hand-to-hand combat, shooting melee, espionage and other techniques. It was at Camp Ritchie that Applegate and Fairbairn discovered that they shared similar views on the shots. Col Applegate quickly learned the importance of martial arts in situations of close combat. One point should be that both men and women receive the same training at Camp Ritchie. Many of these men and women were deployed throughout Europe and the Pacific. Commandos and secret agents who help change the course of the war, and lay the groundwork for Special Forces units in the future.

After the war adventures and Applegate will continue to keep learning. It was south of the border as a representative of several U.S. firearms manufacturer and Mexican soldiers and police advise on how to deal with riots and guerrilla groups. At first I thought I could learn a lot from a gringo, but little time Col Rex Applegate impressed skills and training were so effective that today, their methods are still taught in Mexico.

When Applegate went back to the United States, he would travel and lecture on tactics and training for law enforcement and military organizations. What would you advise the military during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Author of several books and even helped design a series of combat knives (the most famous combat knife is the Applegate-Fairbairn). It will continue to update his masterpiece Kill or Get Killed, changes in the incorporation technology, but the basics always remained strong. If you are serious about learning about the tactics of infighting, then it is better collection a copy.

As for the photo shoot for an electronic book offers a practical lesson for the fight against knife defense

My friend, Lee Asher (magician known), took a ton of knife fighting pictures of one of my eBooks. I think Lee has a good eye for the camera - which took some pictures great teaching.

Despite that took the photos, had to prepare the ground, according to the lesson knife.

I told Lee teaching I wanted to visually capture sequences.

So I told my students what I wanted out of the sequence of pictures, and I held my breath and sometimes ... I had to tell everyone to shoot the sequence again ....

It was so cold that the students moved into their hands, shivered in the picture, smiled (or was that the teeth chattering?) and changed hand positions involuntarily.

Through all this, I made some interesting observations hands on check:

The beginners always seemed to forget the position - they dropped their hands to the sides.

Sometimes doing this during practice, too.

What about this?

* They have only one hand to protect

* Dejan a full side open to attack

* No coordinate the use of both hands

* There is a photo bad for an ebook (smile)

Check hand more advanced students

My more advanced students had a different pattern. Check put my hand in the air. It's almost as if they were hurdles - one hand on the sword and one hand raised in the air.

Think about this position ....

It is the hand check help in the fight? Or we're finding the same set of problems we have when we drop the hand secondary to one side?

Check error hand

At least one of my students noticed these billing errors hand. I saw the correction made. Put both hands forward, less than a foot away.

It is very reminiscent of chi sao (sticky hands), except one holding a knife.

What about this?

A new target

His "Live Hand" (to borrow a term from the Filipino arts) has become another target of his opponent. It's too close to the action, just "hang" there.

In the combat knife ebook, "10 Days to best Knife Fighting," I have a realization in which the practice cut by hand without the knife. You learn a specific and effective way to 'corkscrew' your primary goal to keep up the arm, or with an empty hand.

Doing this without opening a new line of response from his opponent.

Hand Advice Time

If you defend yourself with two knives, one in each hand, or a single sheet in one hand, you should think about the hand placement verification.

Do not drop too low.

Do not plant in front of your face.

Do not stretch so far forward, which becomes a target.

Do not have to move and move without a purpose.

Making use it to help his hand to attack.

I used to defend their attacks, while the other part.

They learn to use as manual control.

Make use of your check in hand to attack simultaneously.

And ...

Do not know that the functions of the can change hands. His' Live Hand "may soon become the attacking hand and vice versa.

Final Note:

And if you go to have the same fate as his opponent focuses on a particular part of yours ... great.

You know what to do with the other hand, is not it?

Keith Pascal is the author of 10 Days to Better Knife Fighting. This is the only book that absolutely guarantees that your knife fighting defense will improve in only ten days. No matter what your skill level.

"These drills will make you respond automatically, efficiently, without thought."
