Iaido will help you win a fight katana?
It will help in a fight against an inexperienced opponent, but as an independent art is lacking practice. Iaido is a fine art that focuses on the perfect shape and movement, while drawing the sword and the strike opening. But generally there is no or no partner in Iaido practice this means that you need a good dose of knowledge of how to handle himself in a fight. It can be an advantage but not certain victory for you.

Iaido is the art of drawing the sword and striking an armed opponent at lightning speed. It is the art of strategy, achieving precision in all aspects of capacity mental and physical, including feet accurate, balanced posture and the critical moment. Live blades are razor sharp and experienced professionals are authorized to use them. The risk is believed to be worthwhile because it is the only way to achieve the ultimate in awareness and concentration, and to unify the mind and body total harmony.
Although Iaido can be classified as a separate martial art, is closely related and complementary to Kendo. Kendo practice requires 2 people near each other armed with shinhai (bamboo swords) and armor, while the Iaido is practiced individually using a gi, Juban, Hakama and Obi. Professionals use a real or an imitation sword, called Iaito. The aim of the exercise is to conduct a series of movements (kata), in which the sword is drawn, an imaginary opponent short, then the sword is resheathed. The ultimate goal of Iaido, however, is to master the ability to defeat the enemy without the sword being developed in the first place to the other words, to conquer the enemy "spiritually" with his sword still in the pod, solving problems without even having to resort to violence. There is a quote that explains this way of thinking: Â "The mind is not disturbed by the car he was beaten, but beaten by the very others.Â"
History:
Iaido is derived from the ancient form of the samurai warrior (bushi), and the forerunner of the technique we know today, Iaijutsu, was used in earnest in the battlefield, while Iaido was designed to exercise "the way of the Sword".
Evidence suggests that nowadays used in iaido bokken was used as a weapon from about 400 AD. The bokken is a solid wood stick with the same shape, weight and the approximate length as a sword, and is usually red or white oak. Bokken technique was followed by tachikaki arts (drawing the sword from the scabbard). The blade (tachi or katana) was long and straight and the Japanese soldier took him to his side left. A shorter blade was used for rapid extraction techniques known as batt.
