Where is the best place to find BURL wood on my property?
"riverdave" is correct. A BURL will look like a defect in the tree. Many species of trees grow knots and some are very valuable. Because they are so valuable, they are usually cut into veneer and used in furniture Fine. Walnut knots are highly sought after and are a prized find. Look for what appears to be a rounded mass of growth. It is sometimes found under the tree at ground level. More often found in the intersection of a higher tree branch. They are usually found in mature trees, where the joke has had time to grow at a recognizable size. Check out some books from tree to your local library and will probably find pictures of knots. It will also help identify trees on their property. Good luck with your search.
