how to operate a small greenhouse in Ontario, CA.
I have a 12 'feet 5'ft. green house with a fan, air ducts and swamp cooler with no luck. I like to grow stag horn on it, plus plants
Take a class on managing greenhouse at a local university. I got my degree in horticulture and when I took my class, greenhouse management, there are 3 people in the class is not even going to college, they just wanted to learn to manage their backyard greenhouse.

I love food and I feel fortunate to have local expertise.
But I'm the first to admit that the location, extraction and preparation of edible wild could be a daunting task for the beginner.
I have written about the availability of edible wild in many markets farmers and specialty shops. This is a very good start. Once you learn these plants, it will be easier to recognize in nature. My Wild Food Page recipes have my recipes and links to recipes from other sources.
For me, nothing is more cool and collected. However, locally it is very close. Wild plants are full of nutrition, but you would with any new food, try a small amount to ensure edibility.
Here is a list of plants you can find for sale:
Burdock root - available in spring, summer and fall, remove the outside to reach edible kernel
Chickweed - taste the corn grows in early spring and fall, eaten raw or cooked
Dandelion - early spring leaves salad or steamed vegetables
Day Lily - good spring shoots, buds and flowers in summer
Fiddlehead ferns - very early spring, the use of ferns only tightly coiled
Garlic mustard - prima excellent spring and summer, roots in the autumn Cook
Jerusalem artichoke - late autumn or early spring is the best time for this type of tubers
Lambs quarters - early spring to eat raw, cook large sheets
Mint - Includes bee balm, pennyroyal, mint, thyme, Wintergreen

Ortigas - The best in early spring - steam to get rid of the sting

My Wild list of cookbooks Page includes many cookbooks. When I tested recipes, these authors have been reliable. I will continue to add my favorite recipes on this page.
Writer and naturalist JJ Murphy has been eating wild foods since her farmer parents pulled weeds from the veggie garden and she ate the weeds. JJ continues to forage and write in Harriman, NY, posting recipes and resource information at http://www.WriterByNature.com.
